In 2015 Gilder was named Gatorade Texas Player of the Year and Parade All-American. Gilder helped the Trojans capture back-to-back state Class 3A titles in 2013 and 2014, earning state title game MVP honours in 2014. He also competed in cross-country, track and field and was a member of the National Honour Society at James Madison high school.
At Texas A&M, Gilder played in all 37 games as a freshman and helped lead the Aggies to the Sweet 16. Gilder emerged as a leader on and off the court during his second season at Texas A&M becoming a starter while leading A&M and ranking second in the SEC by playing 34.6 minutes per contest. He was honoured as the Aggies’ Most Outstanding Player by the A&M coaching staff at the conclusion of the season. Gilder joined Texas A&M’s 1,000-Point Club as a junior and earned SEC Player of the Week honour. He posted a team-high of 18 points during A&M’s NCAA Tournament opening contest and played all 40 minutes. He also helped lead the team to another Sweet 16.
While at Gonzaga, Gilder appeared in 33 games he averaged 25.5 minutes, 10.7 points, 2.0 steals, 48.3% from the field, 36% from three-point range. He was second on the team with 45 three pointers made and made 76% from the free-throw line. Gilder was named one of the nation’s key graduate transfers, the WCC Newcomer of the Year and second team All-WCC by Lindy’s magazine. He was also named to the WCC All-Defense Team by Street & Smith’s, named All-WCC Second Team by Athlon and named the sixth-best graduate-transfer by ESPN.com.
